The Kings Are Queens

Hello Francesca and team!

I spent the last couple of days creating some disco / funk ideas. These are excerpts, rather than songs, designed to be starting points for further discussion. My goal was to explore a variety of different sounds and possibilities. You should be able to download the audio tracks if you wish. Thanks so much for listening, and for the invitation to submit some demo tracks.

All of the following compositions and performances, except the one vocal part, are by me.

“Welcome to My House” is a club/house tune, influenced by Beyoncé’s “PURE/HONEY” and Kylie’s “Padam Padam”.

“Bold As Brass” uses a classic disco rhythm section: drums, bass, and wah guitar. To this disco beat I’ve added brass and strings.

“Intrigue” shifts the vibe to a smokier, late-night feel. Bass here is done on keyboard with a classic 70’s synth sound. Again the ubiquitous disco strings, also some Rhodes-style electric piano.

“You Can’t Keep Me Down” uses a vocal part with some lyrics I wrote that seemed potentially relevant. Guitar, bass, drums, horns, voice:

You can’t keep me down (3x)
Gonna rise up for a new day

Finally I’m including an example of orchestral scoring. “Sunhats and Sand” is a piece I recently wrote which, while almost certainly not directly suited for this film, shows my capacity to write orchestral underscore for film.
