Hello Bob!

I spent the last couple of days creating and curating some musical references. These are designed to be starting points for further discussion. Indeed all but the first piece are relatively short; just enough to communicate the basic idea. I drew upon ideas from the “Calming Jellyfish” and “Time-lapse Music” YouTube pages. The latter video features seven separate pieces, so there are a number of different directions one could choose. I wanted to express the fluidity of the jellyfish while emulating the basic style of Bob’s choices; ambient, new age, some downtempo and chill elements. Thanks so much for listening, and for the invitation to submit some demo tracks.

All of the following are written, performed, and recorded by me.

The first piece is actually from an album I released in 2013 (on Spotify and Apple Music). It’s called “Farmland” (each piece was inspired by a different painting created by my wife, Alexis St. John). It uses a variety of synth, orchestral, percussive, and guitar textures. It’s a relatively active piece for the genre, with percussion beginning at about 2:00.

“Synth in Flux” (clever title 😃) is reminiscent of some of the jellyfish music. It uses a variety of synthesizers and effects, as well as some percussive and sound effect elements. I had a lot of fun with it – it would certainly be possible to do something less busy, or less melodic, for example.

“Protean Guitar” features acoustic and electric guitar, orchestral elements, synth, and bass.

“Without Touching” is a pretty piano excerpt I featured on my website, but it seems potentially relevant for the style we’re exploring. Melodic, ethereal, and again with a percussive element.
